ZaiNar
Bottleneck owner
Turns existing 5G and WiFi networks into a positioning system via sub-nanosecond time sync - sub-10cm accuracy indoors and where GPS fails.
ZaiNar (Belmont, CA; founded 2017, emerged from nine years of stealth in February 2026) turns existing wireless networks into a sensing system. Its patented technology achieves sub-nanosecond time synchronisation across WiFi and 5G infrastructure, and because radio travels about 30 cm per nanosecond, that timing converts into centimetre-level 3D positioning - indoors, underground and in GPS-denied areas, through walls, with up to 500 location updates per second on less than 10 MHz of spectrum. Nothing changes on the tracked device: no new hardware, no battery drain, protocol-agnostic, and the network self-calibrates and improves as it learns each environment. Applications are healthcare asset tracking, construction safety zones, autonomous operations and GPS backup (zainartech.com; funding release, 2026-02-19).

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
Sub-nanosecond timing over commodity radios is the whole moat: it delivers centimetre positioning with zero device changes on networks that already exist, which sidesteps the infrastructure cost that has kept indoor positioning niche.
Position in the stack: Network-side software and timing layer sold to infrastructure owners, healthcare systems and industrial operators; it sits between the radio network and the application, so value scales with sites covered rather than devices sold - and the patent estate plus field calibration data are what make it hard to copy.
