Voyant Photonics
Component
Silicon-photonics FMCW LiDAR on a single chip - thousands of optical elements on one CMOS die, packaged as the solid-state Helium sensor line.
Voyant Photonics (Long Island City, NY) builds chip-scale FMCW LiDAR: thousands of optical components - beam steering, transmit and receive optics and coherent detection - integrated on a single silicon-photonics die fabricated in standard CMOS foundries. Because cost is set by die area rather than by the number of discrete optical elements, Voyant argues LiDAR can move from four-figure automotive parts toward hundred-dollar sensors. Its Helium platform, introduced in late 2025, packages that chip into fully solid-state LiDAR sensors and modules for industrial robotics, AGVs, mobility, automation and security, returning depth plus per-point velocity with no moving parts (voyantphotonics.com; Series A release, 2022-01).

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
A monolithic silicon-photonics FMCW LiDAR die with on-chip beam steering - an optical system whose cost falls with semiconductor scaling instead of with mechanical assembly labour.
Position in the stack: Component supplier selling LiDAR chips and modules to robot, vehicle and industrial integrators. The barrier is the photonic integrated circuit design and Columbia-origin IP; the risk is that it must beat both incumbent mechanical/FMCW LiDAR and camera-first perception on cost and automotive qualification.
