Touchlab
Component
Electronic-skin tactile sensors + software giving robots the sense of touch for dexterous manipulation.
Touchlab builds the tactile sensing layer for robots — thin, customizable electronic-skin sensors and the accompanying software that let machines feel and manipulate objects. Its sensor layer offers high dynamic range and durability, with a fingertip sensor that reads at up to 1kHz+ per taxel for incipient-slip detection, and its robot fingertip maps directly to HaptX haptic gloves. By giving robots touch rather than vision alone, Touchlab targets dexterous manipulation where vision-based systems fall short. The Edinburgh-based company reports ~15 employees, roughly $4M raised, and three patents, and lists partnerships/backing from Shadow Robot, HaptX, NVIDIA, Honda, Prensilia, the NSF, ARIA, and the XPRIZE.

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
Thin, high-dynamic-range tactile sensor layer (1kHz+ per taxel, slip detection) plus software — the sensing modality current vision-centric robots lack.
Position in the stack: Component/sensing layer feeding robot OEMs and manipulator makers; supplies the electronic skin a robot needs to do dexterous work.
