RealSense
Component
Independent Intel spinout selling stereo depth cameras, vision SoCs and perception software for robots. Cognex (NASDAQ: CGNX) agreed to acquire RealSense for ~$500M cash (~$606M all-in); close expected Q4 2026 — prnewswire.com.
RealSense designs and sells stereo depth cameras, vision SoCs and perception software: the D430 series for wide field-of-view global-shutter depth, the newer D555 PoE camera built on the fifth-generation RealSense Vision SoC, and Perception Studio software. The company says its depth cameras are embedded in 60% of the world's autonomous mobile robots and humanoids, with 3,000+ active customers, 80+ patents and named users including Unitree Robotics, ANYbotics, Eyesynth and Fit:Match; it is expanding from robotics and industrial automation into AI-powered access control and facial biometrics. RealSense completed its spinout from Intel on 11 July 2025 with a $50M Series A backed by a semiconductor-focused private equity lead, Intel Capital and MediaTek's Innovation Fund; market-share and customer counts are company-reported.

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
Design-in incumbent: depth cameras already designed into ~60% of AMRs and humanoids plus an in-house vision SoC - the perception default robot OEMs build around.
Position in the stack: Vision sensor and SoC supplier to robot OEMs; defensibility is design-in inertia (SDK, calibration, ecosystem) and Intel-adjacent silicon heritage rather than any single camera model.
Who buys it
Named customers: Unitree Robotics, ANYbotics
Founding team
Nadav Orbach — Founder & CEO — Spent 19 years at Intel, including VP/GM of its Incubation & Disruptive Innovation Group and GM of its Vision Technology Group, where he built camera IP, 3D sensing and Intel's first vision-focused SoC and led an organisation of 650 engineers with 86 patents; led the RealSense spinout from Intel in July 2025.
