Nuro
Foundation model
Mountain View autonomy company licensing its Level 4 'Nuro Driver' stack to auto and mobility partners.
Nuro develops the Nuro Driver, a Level 4 autonomous driving system combining custom perception, prediction and planning software with a vehicle-agnostic platform, and licenses it to automotive and mobility partners instead of running its own delivery fleet. The company says the stack has been applied across nine vehicle platforms, has run more than six years and 2M+ autonomous miles on public roads with zero at-fault incidents, and was the first AV to receive an NHTSA-approved exemption plus California's first driverless deployment permit. Current programmes centre on a global robotaxi programme with Uber and Lucid; investors include Uber, NVIDIA, Google, SoftBank, Greylock, Fidelity and Baillie Gifford (operational stats are company-reported).

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
A safety-validated L4 driver stack: a decade of driverless road miles plus regulatory firsts (NHTSA exemption, California deployment permit) are the hard-to-copy assets, not the vehicle hardware.
Position in the stack: Autonomy software supplier to OEMs and mobility platforms - it sells the driver, not the car. Defensibility rests on safety validation, regulatory record and OEM integration work a new entrant cannot shortcut.
Who buys it
Unknown
Named customers: Uber, Lucid, Kroger, Domino's, 7-Eleven
