mimic robotics
Foundation model
Video-action models plus humanoid robotic hands that bring human-level dexterity to industrial work.
mimic robotics builds video-action models and dexterous robotic hands for general-purpose manipulation. Rather than a full humanoid, it pairs AI-driven anthropomorphic hands with proven off-the-shelf industrial arms in flexible robot stations - one or two arms on a fixed table or a mobile platform - targeting assembly, kitting, packaging, sorting and other unstructured manual work with changing positions, soft bodies and cables. Models train on human video and its own capture hardware (mimic hand M1 and wearable U1). It published mimic-video, arguing video-model backbones generalise better than VLM-based VLAs, and FLUX-mimic with Black Forest Labs. Deployments are pilots with Fortune 500 manufacturers and automotive brands.

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
Human-like hand hardware plus a video-model backbone trained on human data - dexterity that generalises without needing a full humanoid.
Position in the stack: Sits at the dexterity layer: hands, capture hardware and the policy model, riding commodity arms. Copying it needs the hand design, the human-data pipeline and the video-action model together.
Who buys it
Named customers: Fortune 500 manufacturers and global automotive brands (pilots, unnamed)
Founding team
Stefan Weirich — Co-founder & CEO — Leads mimic; co-founded the Zurich-based company out of the ETH Zurich robotics ecosystem
Stephan-Daniel Gravert — Co-founder & CPO — Product lead; argues the hand-plus-arm approach beats full humanoids in industrial scenarios
Elvis Nava — Co-founder & CTO — Leads the AI models; focused on human-like dexterity and human data at the foundation-model layer
Robert Katzschmann — Scientific advisor — ETH Zurich soft robotics professor; scientific advisor to the company
