Matta
Component
Industrial AI that makes factories sentient: camera-based agents for defect detection, metrology, counting and traceability.
Matta builds industrial AI that makes factories 'sentient': a plug-and-play system of off-the-shelf cameras and edge compute plus agents that learn a production line's physical rules on site. Its first agents cover defect detection (Sentry, unsupervised so no labelling), micron-level dimensional measurement at line speed (Gauge), parts counting and kitting (Tally) and per-part traceability (Trace), all surfaced in one platform that traces parts across the plant and recommends corrective action. Hardware installs in about a day and the models start inspecting after a short learning period. Matta was spun out of Cambridge's Institute for Manufacturing and sells into electronics, automotive, defence and apparel production, with named customers including Bowers & Wilkins.

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
Learns a new production line in days from its own footage with no labelling, which is the difference between a demo and a factory-wide deployable model.
Position in the stack: Sits on the quality and metrology step of the line, between the machines and the MES. The moat is the manufacturing foundation model plus the fast line-specific deployment playbook, not the cameras.
