Hyperscale Power
Component
Zurich deep tech building rack-scale solid-state transformers: 13.8 kV AC in, 800 V DC out, 3.3 MW at 98.5% efficiency.
Hyperscale Power designs medium-voltage solid-state transformers (SSTs) that replace conventional 50/60 Hz transformers plus rectifier stages with a single compact unit. Published specification: 13.8 kV AC input, 800 V DC direct output, 3.3 MW system power, up to 98.5% conversion efficiency, roughly 10x smaller than existing solutions with about 90% less material, and lead times cut from years to months. It uses SiC and GaN wide-bandgap devices with advanced magnetics and proprietary control architectures, and natively supports connecting on-site batteries and renewables to the DC bus. The SST slots into the medium-voltage entry point of a data centre, replacing transformer and rectifier stages without redesigning the facility. Target markets: AI data centres, EV fast charging and utility-scale renewables. Infineon appears as an ecosystem partner.

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
Medium-voltage solid-state conversion at rack scale: holding switching losses at high frequency and managing thermal density at 3.3 MW is the barrier, and no legacy transformer maker has shipped a compact 13.8 kV-to-800 V DC unit at this density.
Position in the stack: Power-conversion layer at the medium-voltage entry point of a data centre, replacing transformer, rectifier and UPS stages in the chain that feeds GPU racks. Hard to copy because it is a physics and materials problem - wide-bandgap devices, magnetics, thermal design - followed by multi-year qualification with utilities and hyperscalers, in a supply chain that has not evolved in decades.
