Highway 9 Networks
Component
Cloud-native private mobile/5G "mobile cloud" for enterprises, built for robots, factory automation and drones.
Highway 9 Networks sells a mobile cloud: enterprise mobile connectivity delivered as a cloud-native service rather than as telecom infrastructure. It targets three enterprise requirements that fixed wireless and distributed antenna systems cannot meet - mobility, resilience and predictable low latency - for AI-driven use cases such as robotics, factory automation and drones, plus always-on data access for priority applications. The platform integrates with existing IT infrastructure and security policies, operates across mobile service providers and automates lifecycle management of the mobile stack. It emerged from stealth on 2024-02-21 with $25M led by Mayfield, built by a founding team that previously ran multiple billion-dollar business lines at VMware.

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
A carrier-grade mobile core virtualized and sold as a cloud service: the hard part is running mobile-network software with enterprise-grade operations and IT integration, which almost no enterprise networking vendor can do and almost no telco vendor wants to sell that way.
Position in the stack: Connectivity layer between the air interface and enterprise IT: it replaces DAS and carrier dependence with a network the customer controls, and it is the substrate AMR, drone and vision fleets require. Hard to copy because it needs both telecom protocol depth and enterprise IT integration discipline - the founding team's VMware background in network virtualization and telco cloud is the rare combination.
