Foxglove
Data & simulation
Data and observability platform for Physical AI: capture, search and visualize multimodal robot data at petabyte scale.
Foxglove sells a data and observability platform for robotics teams, built from three parts. MCAP is an open-source multimodal logging standard the company launched in 2022 and which now ships by default with ROS 2 and NVIDIA Isaac. The Data Platform stores, searches and queries petabyte-scale robot data across cloud, on-premises or air-gapped deployment. Visualization unifies 3D, video, audio, GNSS, proprioceptive and time-series data in one workspace so engineers can replay frame-by-frame. Customers record logs or demonstrations at the edge, sync recordings to storage, find events across datasets and evaluate robot performance. It replaces in-house data tooling that historically cost tens to hundreds of millions of dollars to build, which is why the company describes itself as the agentic data platform for Physical AI.

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
It owns MCAP, the log format increasingly treated as the default for robot data (shipped by default in ROS 2 and NVIDIA Isaac), so format gravity plus the search/visualization layer makes it the horizontal data substrate rather than one vendor's tooling.
Position in the stack: Sits between robot fleets and the ML train/eval loop: capture at the edge, index and store in the customer's own cloud or air-gapped environment, replay for debugging. Hard to copy because it is a horizontal, format-owning data layer - the more robotics companies standardize on MCAP the higher the switching cost, and no single vertical robot maker can justify building a tool that everyone else also needs.

Founding team
Adrian Macneil — CEO and Co-Founder — Previously Director of Infrastructure at Cruise and Director of Engineering at Coinbase; built robotics tooling inside Cruise before founding Foxglove.
Roman Shtylman — CTO and Co-Founder — Previously Software Engineer at Cruise and at Coinbase; co-founded Foxglove with Macneil out of the same Cruise tooling frustration.
