Shanghai rehab-exoskeleton maker turned humanoid OEM — GR-1/GR-2/GR-3 platforms plus clinical robotics distribution.

Fourier builds rehabilitation and humanoid robotics from Shanghai. Its original franchise is exoskeleton and rehabilitation systems for hospitals and clinics — lower-limb exoskeletons, hand and upper-limb training robots and a therapy software platform — sold to more than 2,000 institutions in over 40 countries with the company reporting 500+ units shipped. From that base it moved into general-purpose humanoids with the GR-1, a bipedal platform it began positioning for mass production in 2023 as a research and embodied-AI platform, followed by the GR-2 and the GR-3 care robot. The company is named after Joseph Fourier and was founded in 2015; its clinical installed base is the unusual asset most humanoid startups lack.

Evidence boundary

Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.

A hospital-grade rehabilitation installed base — regulatory approvals, clinical training and reimbursement relationships — that most humanoid OEMs would have to build from scratch before selling into care.

Humanoid OEM with an unusual entry point: it sells finished bipedal platforms into research and care from a position already inside clinics, rather than starting from industrial pilots.
