Formic Technologies
Fleet services
Robots-as-a-service for US mid-market manufacturers: palletising, case packing, machine tending and AMRs on a monthly fee.
Formic sells robotic automation to US manufacturers as a service: it scopes, installs, owns and maintains the cells and charges a fixed monthly fee instead of a capital purchase, aiming at mid-market plants that would never run an automation project themselves. The portfolio covers any-product palletising, case packing, machine tending for CNC mills, lathes and moulders, pallet wrapping, AMR material movement, and a Fast Track line bundling case erecting, packing, sealing and palletising as one connected end-of-line. General-purpose humanoids are offered on the same model as an early-access programme. Formic publishes live fleet metrics — tens of millions of items produced per week at 99.3% uptime — and says it has deployed with 60+ manufacturers.

Evidence boundary
Original analysis and independent corroboration remain under development. Commercial scale and durable technical advantage remain under review.
What makes it defensible
Full-service robotics-as-a-service at a per-hour rate with guaranteed uptime - it removes the capital outlay and the integration risk that keep small US factories from automating at all.
Position in the stack: Integrator and operator layer: Formic buys and owns the robots, writes the programs, and runs maintenance, so it captures recurring service revenue from factories too small for a traditional integrator engagement.
Who buys it
Named customers: Icon, 60+ manufacturing facilities (undisclosed)
Founding team
Saman Farid — Founder & CEO — Founded Formic in September 2020 in Chicago after studying automation; built the company around a no-upfront-cost, guaranteed-uptime automation model.
