Digital Metal, Inc.
Contract manufacturing capacity layer (on-demand investment casting foundry) bundled with a manufacturing-software layer: instant CAD quoting, automated DFM, and a GPU casting-simulation solver. · United States
Instant-quote, on-demand investment casting: upload a STEP file, get a price in seconds, and receive production-grade cast metal parts in days with no tooling and no order minimums.
Digital-first investment casting service. Customers upload STEP/STP/GLTF/GLB files and receive automated pricing, lead time, and DFM feedback; parts are produced via printed (lost-SLA) ceramic-shell molds rather than hard tooling. Published capabilities: 17-4 stainless steel, 304 stainless steel, A356 aluminum; 1-piece minimum; no tooling fees; 5–7 business day lead times; raw or sandblasted finish; ±0.1mm per cm as-cast tolerance. Software surfaces: a Quoting API (STEP → price → order), a general DFM API with rule packs for casting/CNC/injection molding/additive/sheet metal, and FastCast Studio, a GPU-accelerated casting simulation tool (fill, solidification, porosity, distortion) offered with a public solver playground.

What makes it defensible
Metal castings are a slow, opaque, tooling-heavy choke point in hardware supply chains: traditional foundries quote only after sales back-and-forth, demand tooling minimums, and run ~16-week average lead times. Digital Metal claims to collapse this with instant algorithmic quoting, printed ceramic shells (no hard tooling, no order minimum), and in-house GPU simulation that shortens process iteration from overnight CPU solves to minutes — compressing quote-to-part to days and enabling low-volume and one-off cast parts.
Position in the stack: Sits between CAD/engineering teams and finished hardware as a quick-turn contract foundry plus software vendor: it converts customer geometry into priced, manufacturable castings, produces the parts (Austin foundry), and increasingly sells the enabling toolchain (quoting engine, DFM rule engine, FastCast solver) that other manufacturers could use. Downstream of alloy/pattern-material suppliers; upstream of aerospace, defense, robotics, energy, and machine-shop customers that machine or assemble the castings.
